This thesis deals with the numerical solution of regularized long wave (RLW)
and Korteweg de-Vries (KdV) equations by extended cubic B-spline finite element
Galerkin method.
In the first chapter, some definitions needed in the next chapters are given. First,
a brief history for solitary and soliton waves are given and, the finite difference and the
finite element methods are described. After the concept of the spline functions is
outlined, cubic B-spline and extended cubic B-spline functions are described and are
constructed. Finally, RLW and KdV equations solved numerically in the next chapters
are introduced together with their test problems.
In the second chapter, the RLW equation is solved numerically by using
extended cubic B-spline Galerkin method. Two test problems including solitary waves
and interaction of two solitary waves are used to examine proposed method.
In the third chapter, extended cubic B-spline Galerkin method is used to solve
the CKdV equation numerically. The proposed method is examined by using solitary
and interaction of two solitary waves test problems.
In the last chapter a discussion about the proposed method is given.
