In this study, removal of sulphate by the ion exchange method with Lewatit Monoplus M600 resin was investigated.
In this study performed with aqueous solution, the effect of contact time, temperature, initial pH and concentration of solution was investigated on the sulphate removal and elution process was carried out. The best sulphate removal was obtained by ion exchange method at the conditions 500 mL sulphate solution/ 5 g resin, pH value of 5,36 at 20 ° C and 3 hour contact time. The percent removal of sulphate decreased as temperature and initial sulphate concentration increased. It was observed that the sulphate sorption isotherm was in accordance with Langmuir izotherm. The thermodynamic parameters were also calculated for this process.
In the study performed with wastewater, the effects of contact time, initial pH of the solution on removal of sulphate were investigated. The best sulphate removal conditions were found as of 500 mL wastewater / 5 g resin, pH value of 9.79, 20 ° C and 90 minute contact time.
In the last part of the study, column sorption-elution experiments for sulphate removal were performed using Lewatit Monoplus M600 anion exchange resin. The breakthrough curve was obtained as a function of feed flow rate and then capacity value of resin was calculated. The sulphate on the resin was quantitatively eluted with 0,5 M NaCl solution at different flow rates. Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models were applied to experimental data to predict the breakthrough curves.
