In our country, the negative effects of the recent earthquakes on buildings have pioneered studies to question the existing building stock. Examination of the seismic safety of the buildings designed in particular before 1998 has been necessary. In this study, the projects of 20 existing reinforced concrete building having different number of floors from Afyonkarahisar Municipality, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality and Odunpazarı Municipality were reached in order to set an example for buildings designed and applied before 1998. These buildings were re-examined in detail in its current form and an attempt was made to determine the changes of the effects of parameters related with the seismic performance on the examined buildings. Maintaining the existing structural system features of the examined buildings, reinforced concrete projects were re-calculated firstly without taking into account the effects of the earthquake and under the effects of vertical loads only and secondly under the design earthquake loads based on TDY 75 which is valid from the date of building. The results of the reinforced concrete design according to different load conditions were compared with the projects in current application. After the calculation, it was found that structures made of 1980-1990 were calculated according to only vertical loads while those made between 1991 and 1998 were calculated according to TDY 75. Making use of this data, 10 reinforced concrete buildings were selected as a reference among 20 examined projects. The effects of structural parameters which affected the seismic performance of buildings in the past earthquakes and which was influential in vulnerability were examined. In the examination, the projects in current application and reinforced concrete projects re-calculated only under the vertical loads were modelled with Structural Analysis Programme and loss ratio of reinforced concrete frames was found. Concrete class, steel grade, ground-floor height, site class, changes in the placement of wall and the effect of short column on structural safety on examined buildings were evaluated separately for the reference buildings. It was seen that these changes gave significant results on different performance point on the examined building and the vulnerability of the frames.
