Demand estimation is a process that comes up with an estimate of the amount of demand for a product or service. The estimate of demand is typically confined to a particular period of time. One of the reasons that companies use demand estimation is to assist with pricing. Another reason that demand estimation is commonly used is so that it can help with production amount and controlling the serviceable inventory level. Demand estimation derived from a parametric distribution requires statistical estimation of its mean and variance or other parameters. In the case of unobserved lost sales, the parameter estimates must be adjusted appropriately to account for the unobserved component of demand. In this thesis to cope with the observable lost sales in the textile sector we utilize the Bayesian approach. In Bayesian analysis the new information is combined with the previously available information. At this point the prior information (distribution) corresponds to the historical data or the subjective thought of the decision maker about the random parameter of the involved process. The consequential decision or inferential statement (posterior distribution) pooled all available information about the uncertain parameter of the interest. The proposed Bayesian approach is applied to women clothing monthly sales data between the years 1997 to 2013. To obtain the posterior distribution parameters we utilized two approaches; conjugate families’ priors and Jeffreys’ priors where the lack of information about the priors.
