Recently, opto-electronic technology reveal itself as a scientific study field requiring novel and alternative materials. Most of the works made on this field have been focused on transparent conducting oxide family. In this work, ZnO films which are important members of transparent conducting oxide family, have been produced by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique at 350±5 ºC substrate temperature with different Mg concentrations. Effect of Mg doping on the structural, optical, surface, electrical and luminescent properties of ZnO films have been investigated. It has been determined that all films have polycrystalline structure and show a preferential orientation through (002) plane, using X-ray diffraction patterns. Thicknesses and optical constants of the films have been determined by Spectroscopic Ellipsometry. Optical properties of the films have been examined and it has been determined that all films have direct band structure. Optical band gap values have been found to be between 3.27 and 3.40 eV by optical method. Atomic force microscope has been used to investigate the three dimensional surface properties. Photoluminescence properties of ZnO:Mg films have been examined by a fluorescence spectrometer. Four-probe technique has been used to determine the electrical resistivity values of the films and it has been seen that these values decreased by Mg doping. It has been concluded that Mg doping has important effects on the properties of ZnO films in view of opto-electronic and photovoltaic solar cell applications.
