This thesis is deal with numerical solution of the nonlinear schrödinger (NLS)
equation by using high-degree B-spline collocation finite element method.
In the first chapter, some definitions will be used in later chapters are given. In
the first, giving information about soliton, finite difference and collocation finite
element methods have been described. After defining the concept of spline functions we
have given information about quintic, sextic and septic B-spline functions. Finally the
NLS equation which will be solved numerically in the next chapter has been introduced.
In the second chapter the numerical solution of the NLS equation is obtained by
the quintic B-spline collocation method. Test problems such as a single soliton solution,
the interaction of two solitons and birth of solitons was used to examine the proposed
method.
In the third chapter the numerical solution of the NLS equation is obtained by
the sextic B- spline collocation method. The test problems in the second chapter are
used to examine proposed method.
In the fourth chapter the numerical solution of the NLS equation is obtained by
the septic B-spline collocation method. The test problems in the second chapter are used
to examine proposed method.
In the last chapter recommendations are made about the proposed methods.
