In this doctoral thesis; potential of wind speed and solar radiation for power
generation was detected and analyzed in Eskisehir. The data used for analysis and
estimation has been taken from the measuring station which has been established with
the project numbered 201015023 that is supported by BAP Commission of Eskişehir
Osmangazi University. In the data measuring station; there are wind speed measurement
sensors one at the 10th meter and two at the 30th meter and a wind direction sensor at the
27th meters. In addition to these sensors; temperature, pressure and relative humidity
measuring devices are placed at the 3rd meter and total radiation intensity measuring
device (pyranometer) is placed at the 5th meter.
The received data is primarily used to determine the potential and the results
were analyzed per month. According to the results; the average wind speed is measured
4.1 m/s and 3.2 m/s for 30 m. and 10 m respectively. It was found that wind speed at the
30 m height may be included in the weak case. Also wind speed at the 10 m is included
at the boundary of too weak case and it is understood that the production of energy with
this speed is not economical. Minitab and EasyFit programs are used in statistical
analysis. 8 distributions are tested for distribution suitability testing. According to the
suitability test results, Weibull distribution is found to be the best distribution and also
shape and scale parameters are calculated. In addition, the obtained results are applied
to commercial turbines for power generation status in Eskişehir. In our country, the
most widely used brands of turbine performance analysis was calculated for 30-50-70
and 90 m. heights. It is noted that, in the case of the usage of small tribunes in Eskişehir
region, as the hub height increases, generated power and usability decrease whereas the
capacity factor increases. It is determined that energy production has to be made with
small-scale tribunes due to the low capacity factors in the usage of large-scale tribunes.
Comparison of the distribution results and different commercial turbines are contributed
to the literature.
