owadays, the depletion of high grade ores has decreased the liberalization size. This
made it necessary to enrich finer sized ores. One of the most successful processes at -0.2 mm
size, where most of the other enrichment methods are inefficient, is flotation. However, when
the grain size becomes approximately -0.02 mm, the efficiency of flotation becomes to
decrease. For this reason, many researches have been carried out on effective flotation in
very fine grain sizes and the use of microbubbles is recommended as one of the solutions.
This study is based on a mechanical cell, which is very common in the industry and
suitable for modification in terms of structural properties and costs. For this study, a
microbubble generator using cavitation principles that generates thin (approximately 0.6-0.8
mm) air bubbles was designed and built. The cell modification was done by mounting the
microbubble generator to the classical mechanical flotation cell. -0.15 mm sized particles
were subjected to classical and modified flotation, and the effect of adding microbubbles to
the classical cell on the yield and floating speed constant “k” have been researched. In
flotation studies, the effect of solids ratio, impeller speed and collector amount on maximum
yield and flotation speed in classical and modified flotation was investigated by using
statistical design methods.
As a result of the studies, it has been observed that while the maximum efficiency
that can be achieved with classical flotation remains around 75%, it can be exceeded 85% in
modified flotation on different conditions. In terms of flotation rate constants, it was
observed that the highest flotation rate value was 12,13 10-3 s-1 in classical flotation studies
and 22,14 10-3 s-1 on different conditions in modified cell flotation studies
