TiSiN
kaplamaların diğer kaplamalara göre üstün özellikler gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir
WC reinforced metal matrix composites (MMC) have a wide usage area. These materials
are one of the important materials nowadays. In this study, metal matrix composite materials
were produced by powder metallurgy method using WC, Fe, Ni, and C powders. In the first
stage of the experimental studies, the powders were homogeneously mixed subsequently axially
and cold isostatically pressed. The obtained green forms were sintered in an unpressurized argon
media. The microstructure (density, phase) and mechanical (hardness, modulus of elasticity,
fracture toughness) properties of the samples were investigated experimentally. In this study,
the effect of different amounts of Fe and Ni additives as the binding phase on the mentioned
properties were investigated. It has been determined that there is a critical ratio for Fe and Ni
additives. The excessive addition reduces the fracture toughness. The optimum chemical
composition with the Fe-Ni content was determined according to microstructure and mechanical
properties. In the second stage of the experimental studies, optimum chemical content samples
were coated with TiN, TiAlN, CrAlN, and TiSiN by physical vapor deposition method (PVD).
The microstructure (coating thickness, phase, surface roughness, and topography), mechanical
(hardness, modulus of elasticity, plasticity indexes), tribological properties (nano scratch, and
wear tests) of the coatings were investigated experimentally. No cracks or defects were detected
in the coatings. The highest average surface roughness values were found in TiN coating. It has
been determined that ternary nitride coatings perform higher hardness, modulus of elasticity,
and plasticity index values than TiN coating. It was determined that ternary nitride coatings
exhibited ductile behavior while TiN coating exhibited brittle behavior under applying loads in
nano scratch tests at different depths. The wear resistance is increased between 1.87 and 17.13
times in comparison to the substrate material. Compared to TiN coating, the wear resistance of
ternary nitride coatings improved between 2.44 and 9.13 times. The highest coefficient of
friction (COF) was observed in the substrate, while the lowest coefficient of friction was found
in the TiSiN coating. It was observed that TiSiN coatings have superior mechanical and
tribological properties compared to other coatings
