This study explores the thermodynamic properties of conventional superconductors. It
also examines how these thermodynamic properties vary in unconventional superconductors.
This study concluded that the electronic specific heat of a conventional superconductor
exhibits a jump at the transition temperature from a normal to a superconducting value. Its
behavior below the transition temperature follows the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS)
theory’s exponential dependence. It further concluded that the electronic specific heat of
unconventional superconductors exhibits a jump at the transition temperature as well; however,
it is harder to assess because of the large phononic contribution of the lattice. Its behavior below
the superconducting material’s transition temperature does not quite fit the BCS theory’s
exponential description, as well as conventional superconductors, do. This study recommends
finding a more generic BCS theory-like theory to explain unconventional superconductors’
mechanisms.
This study was carried by analyzing previous theoretical findings in the field of
superconductivity as well as making use of empirical researches
