The most common feature of contemporary building technology is that an ideal combination of different building materials can be used. The most important feature of the composite structure is the use of concrete and steel together. Composite elements are used and applied especially in multi-storey structures due to benefits they provided.
In scope of this thesis, in contradistinction to widely used reinforced concrete structures in our country, design of composite construction members and accounting rules are explained. Primarily, working style and purposes of composite construction members are given and the advantages and disadvantages of this stuctures according to reinforced concrete and steel structures are specified. Then, the calculation principles and the sizing rules of composite flooring, composite beams and composite columns are detailed based on EUROCODE4 (Eurocode 4: Design of composite steel and concrete structures) and AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) regulations.
As a sample, a composite column section is designed according to AISC and Eurocode 4 and verifications are made for the given loads. Also a sample structure designed as a composite and steel coulumn structures is analyzed and sized based on AISC regulations via ETABS computer programme. According to obtained results, these two structures are compared in terms of floor displacements, sections of the elements used and cost.
