Rail Transport System is a well-chosen transportation system since it offers secure,
comfortable and fast travelling in today’s world. By means of new technology the speed
limits have been increased. As a result of high speed, the needs for quality is to be higher
level. There may be some risks provided that there are defects on the welded-joints at high
speeds. Therefore, it is vital to maintain a secure travelling for transporting life and
property.
In this research, welded-joints on E 68000 type electrical locomotives bogies with
simulating non-destructive testing have been researched. The samples having two different
thicknesses have been welded with MAG welding and manual metal arc welding. Liquid
Penetration Test, Magnetic Particle Test, Ultrasonic Test and Radiographic Test have been
applied on the welded samples.
Volumetric inspection methods and surface inspection methods are mutually
complementary has been identified at the end of the research. It has also been proved that
there can be defects away from surface when one of the volumetric inspection methods is
applied on a surface without any defects.
