Çalışmanın amacı Türk popülasyonunda mandibular premolar dişlerin
apikal morfolojisinin stereomikroskop görüntülerini taramak, apikal foramen alanı ve
konumu arasındaki potansiyel bir korelasyonu analiz etmektir.
Materyal ve Metod: Bu çalışmada 237 adet çekilmiş insan mandibular küçük
azı dişi incelenmiştir. Örneklerin kök ucu görüntüleri entegre yazılıma sahip bir
stereomikroskop ile elde edilmiştir. Apikal foramen sayısı, boyutu, şekli ve yeri;
The aim of this study was to quantify two-dimensional stereomicroscope
images for apical morphology screening of mandibular premolars in the Turkish
population, to analyze a potential correlation between the area and position of the apical
foramen.
Material and Method: Two hundred thirty seven extracted human mandibular
premolar teeth were used in this study. Image data was obtained from the apices of the
specimens using a stereomicroscope with integrated software. The number, size, shape,
and the location of apical foramina; frequency of accessory foramina were measured.
Mann-Whitney U and Spearman's rank correlation tests were performed (α=0.05).
Results: The apical foramen size in mandibular first and second premolars was
found to be 55180μm² (39119-85639μm²) and 67483μm² (43757-98410μm²),
respectively (p>0.05). The distance between the apical foramen and anatomic apex was
664μm (512-907μm) in mandibular first premolars and 677μm (515-1053μm) in
mandibular second premolars, respectively (p>0.05).
Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between the area and position
of the apical foramen for mandibular first premolar (ρ =0.035; p =0.692) and second
premolar teeth (ρ =-0.042; p =0.651). The study revealed the shape, size of the apical
foramen, and the distance from the apical foramen to the anatomical apex for
mandibular premolars were designated in the Turkish population for the first time
