hekim, %39.8’i (82) hemşire ve ebe, %14.6’sı (30) diğer meslek (att, paramedik vb.)
grubundandı. Katılımcıların %69.4’ü (143) okul öğrenimi sırasında, %22.8’i (47)
Child abuse is a common and preventable public health
problem both in our country and in the world. This study aimed to evaluate the
awareness level of healthcare professionals on this issue, who have a special position
in preventing and diagnosing child abuse. In our study, a total of 206 healthcare
workers, 132 (64.1%) women and 74 (45.6%) men, who worked in Eskişehir
Osmangazi University Medical Faculty Hospital between February 1 and August 1,
2020 and accepted to participate in our study. was done with. Of the participants,
45.6% (94) were physicians, 39.8% (82) were nurses and midwives, 14.6% (30) were
from the other profession (horse, paramedic, etc.) group. 69.4% (143) of the
participants received training on child abuse during their school education and 22.8%
(47) afterwards. 61.2% (126) of the participants encountered child abuse cases, the
most common case was identified as physical abuse. 76.2% (157) of the participants
stated that child abuse cases were not reported sufficiently, while 64.1% (109) of the
participants stated that the reason for not having enough information about this issue
was not reported. History taking was found to be the most difficult issue for 69.2%
(139) of the participants. It was determined that 55.3% (114) of the participants would
inform the police in suspected child abuse cases. While the average score received by
physicians on the physical symptoms of abuse on the child subscale was 76.56 ± 7.5,
it was 73.63 ± 6.5 for nurses and midwives. The level of knowledge of physicians on
this subject was found to be statistically significantly higher than that of nurses.
According to the findings of our study, it is thought that healthcare professionals have
insufficient knowledge of child abuse and that the trainings given during and after
school education are insufficient. Trainings should be organized both during and after
school education in order to increase the awareness of healthcare professionals
