Noise is one of today's most important environmental pollution factor . Noise can
be described as unpleasant, unwanted and disturbing sound.
Centrifugal pumps are machines in use for many years, the group which can cause
noise depending on their performance. Until today, many studies and researches have been
done on them. In this study, studies on centrifugal pumps, adding one more to the pump
impeller blades of the holes ,noise and vibration impact on reducing the severity was
investigated experimentally .
Where the noise is a flow problem at the pump, this is generally a result from an
imbalance of hydrodynamic forces when the fluid flows through the impeller cavity.
Therefore, as the number of blades in each rotation of the pump shaft is knocking . This
knock causes vibration, the vibration causes the sound . Sound reduction is possible with
opening the holes on the blade.
In this study, the impeller has different number of blades z = 3, z = 5, z = 7, z = 9
and z = 11 by drilling different numbers of holes (no holes, one hole, two holes, 3 holes, 4
holes) determined based on the experience on the impeller fins in particular position and
diameter (6 mm) on pump performance and speed of noise and vibration effects were
investigated. The result of the experiments, when the valve position is half open, z = 3 is
the lowest vibration speed and respectively, then z = 7, z = 5, z = 11 and z = 9. When the
valve position is quarter open, z = 3 is the lowest vibration speed and respectively, then z =
5, z = 7, z =9 and z = 11. Considering the overall efficiency of the system, both the highest
overall efficiency and the lowest vibration velocity was determined as z = 5.
