In this work, the Naphtholic Schiff bases (4, 5, 6, 7) that were prepared from the
reaction of aniline and substituted anilines (2', 3', 4' -OCH3) with 2-hydroxy-1-
naphtaldehyde were reacted with iodine under the catalysis of natural zeolite
clinoptilolide. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 12 hours by adjusting the pH of the
solution at 4-5 and the reaction was controlled by TLC at certain intervals. The
structure of the compounds that were isolated by TLC (SiO2/Toluene) and
crystallisation were determined by IR, UV, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass spectra and
chemical analysis. Under our reaction conditions, iodine was substituted to the phenyl
ring of the naphtholic Schiff bases (4, 5, 6, 7). Theoretical calculation results were
compared with the experimental results and were found that they were compatible with
each other.
