Her iki firma adına LME’ye üye broker firmaların birinde
hesap açma işlemleri yürütülmüş, broker firmadan hesap açma onayı alınmış ve
future kontratlarla emtia fiyatlarındaki değişim riskine karşı hedging uygulamalarına
örnekler verilmiştir
Firms face with many risks during their commercial lifetime. Fluctuations in
raw material prices, foreign exchange rates or interest rates are some of those. But it
is possible to decrease such risks much more effectively and, moreover, eliminate
them with instruments created by continuously developing financial markets.
Hedging strategies formed by derivatives in futures markets such as futures,
forwards, options and swaps are some of those instruments.
The aim of this study is to demonstrate that companies using base metals as
raw materials which are traded on the LME (London Metal Exchange) or those
selling them, can hedge their positions against movements of related metals’ prices
by using future contracts and to realize this, they can open accounts, which do not
require any money transfer, with broker firms that are members of the LME.
In this study, to prove these assertions in practice, we worked with two
different companies. One is a large scale enterprise active in battery industry and
other is an SME (Small and Medium size Enterprise) active in stainless steel
industry. Account opening transactions with an LME member broker firm were
performed on behalf of these two companies; account opening confirmations by the
broker firm was obtained and practical examples demonstrating that fluctuation risk
on commodity prices can be hedged by future contracts are performed
