Plasma is one of the most energetic states of the matter. Due to this fact plasma can be used in large applications especially for the development of advanced technologies suitable for the requirements of the new millennium of the mankind.
One of these technologies is the Thermionic Vacuum Arc (TVA) which has been developed especially for the changes of the surface properties by the bombardment with energetic ions of just the growing thin film.
This advanced technology (TVA) has been considered to grow composite materials particularly silver-alumina. A layer by layer deposition of the mentioned materials namely silver (Ag) and alumina (Al2O3) has been used.
Also we performed investigations to characterize the composite materials obtained using TVA technology. We used Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), micro hardness measurements.
The TVA working parameters were correlated with the obtained thin film performances.
The hardness of the composite layers where 943 vickers while the hardness of pure silver was 25 vickers and of the alumina 1200 vickers.
Due to the qualities of TVA depositions, the obtained layers were compact and without any impurities.
