On the basis of investigations, hormonal changes found in the
adolescence period can result to the appearance of acne vulgaris. In the different
investigations the role of androgens has been shown in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. On
the basis of the results of these investigations plasma levels of some of the sex hormones
statistically were different between patient and control groups. In this investigation plasma
levels of sex hormones (prolactin, FSH, LH, estradiol, total and free testosterone, SHBG,
DHEA-SO4,17-OH progesteron) measured in patient and control groups and analyzed
statistically. There was statistically significant difference between females with acne and the
controls without acne for the plasma levels of LH, total testosterone and DHEA-SO4
(p<0,05). There was also statistically significant difference between males with acne and the
controls without acne for the plasma levels of total and free testosteron (p<0,05). These
results show the role of the androgens in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. Furthermore in
females with acne vulgaris the LH may be considered as an etiologic factor.
