This study was conducted at the rangelands of the Bozdağ Region located on the
Sundiken Mountains during 2017 and 2018 years. Rangeland condition, seasonal change of
allowed forage production, and forage quality of the rangelands, which differs in aspect,
were examined and monitoring possibilities of these characteristics using remote sensing
methods were evaluated. The ratio of grasses did not differ in aspect but the ratio of legumes
was higher at the north aspect and summit and the ratio of other families was higher in the
south aspect. Canopy coverage rate was lower in the south aspect but the coverage was not
below the threshold values in any sites. All of the examined sites were “healthy” due to
health class but the range condition score was “poor” at all. The mean allowed forage yield
was 647,2 kg/ha. Allowed forage increased during the grazing season till July and decreased
after July until the rainy fall season begins but the progress was around the critical values
(400 kg/ha) especially during the dry season. Crude protein ratio was higher at the south
aspect and it was 13.5 % at the beginning of the grazing season but decreased with the
progressing season. NDF and DDM ratio of the vegetation increased until mid-summer and
showed a decreasing trend after mid-summer but the ADF ratio increased until the end of
the grazing season. Topographically, in the south aspect, the NDF and DDM ratios were
lower but the ADF ratio was higher. It was observed that the vegetation reached the grazing
maturity on 30th April and the grazing should be ceased on the 1st of November. The grazing
season of the examined area was about 180 days. It was determined that the seasonal
variations in allowed forage yield and NDF ratio were not predictable with the NDVI values
generated from the Sentinel 2A satellite imagery (free and 10m resolution) but the allowed
forage yield in July-August and October were strongly-moderately correlated (r2=0,722,
r
2=0,407 respectively) with the NDVI values. The seasonal variations of crude protein, ADF
and DDM ratio could be predicted with the Sentinel 2A NDVI. Results showed that the
grazing season, allowed forage yield at the dry-summer season and the seasonal variation of
crude protein, ADF, and DDM could be predicted using the NDVI values generated from
the Sentinel 2A satellite imagery
