Cam, yüksek sıcaklıklarda inorganik maddelerden olusturulan amorf seramik
materyallerdir.
Temel olarak asagıda verilen formüle uyacak biçimde üç grupta toplam on sekiz
[%80B O %15Na CO %(5 x)X %xV O ] %0,5D 2 3 + 2 3 + − + 2 5 +
x 1;0,5 X Al O ,MgO, ZnO D CuO,CoO = = 2 3 =
degildir. Birincil, ikincil maksimumlara sahipken bu çalısmadaki kobalt katkılı
camlarda ikincil maksimum belirlenememis, yaklasık olarak simetrik bant aralıgına
sahip oldugu belirlenmistir. Vanadyum oranının artısı camlarda geçirgenligi azaltmıstır.
Cam numunelerin 587,6 nm’deki kırılma indislerinin, taban grubunda 1,64–
Glasses are amorphous ceramic materials obtained from inorganic materials at
high temperatures. Glasses and their structures have attracted attention all through the
history of mankind. Since they are rigid, transparent and resistant to environmental
effects and degradation, they are indispensable materials of many engineering
applications such as construction and electric-electronics industry.
In this thesis, because of their scientific importance and structural properties,
formation of borate glasses having different constituents, structure analysis and their
optical properties are investigated and electrical and optical properties of these glasses
that have not been investigated before are focused on.
Eighteen glass samples were formed in three groups in accordance with the basic
formula shown below; the first group has been accepted as the base group and no
additive (D) was added.
[%80B O %15Na CO %(5 x)X %xV O ] %0,5D 2 3 2 3 2 5 + + − + +
x 1;0,5 X Al O ,MgO, ZnO D CuO,CoO 2 3 = = =
In the structure analysis of these prepared glass samples, it has been observed
that all samples are far from crystallization, amorphous and their homogeneity differed
according to the constituents forming the structure and the most resistive glass samples
that have minimum interaction with air are the glasses that MgO is added.
Based on the conductivities, calculated from the current-voltage measurements,
taken in an illuminated environment, BACU2 glass was observed to have the highest
conductivity with a value of 9.5467.10-9 ( cm)-1 and due to this, the lowest resistivity
with a value of 1.0475.108 cm; BMCU1 glass was observed to be have the lowest
conductivity with a value of 1.1072.10-9( cm)-1 and the highest resistivity with a value
of 9.0319.108 cm. In the measurements taken in darkness, the glass that has the
highest conductivity is BA2, and the lowest is BZCO1.
The absorption, permeability and reflection spectra of the samples are examined
and characteristic vanadium peaks corresponding to the 420 nm, 620 nm and 750 nm
wavelengths, found in the literature, were not be observed in the base glasses. In the
glasses that copper was added, when “cupric” absorption bands were compared with the
literature shifts were observed with the changes in the constituents of the glasses if
compared to other glasses. Cobalt does not have a symmetrical band gap. While it has
primary and secondary maxima, the secondary maximum was not be obtained in the
glasses doped with cobalt in this study and were determined to have a nearly
symmetrical band gap. The increase in vanadium ratio decreased the transmittance in
the glass.
The refractive indices of the glass samples at 587.6 nm are calculated to vary in
the range of 1.64–1.925 in base glasses, and in the range of 3.5–4.35 in CuO doped
glasses and in the range of 3–6.925 in CoO doped glasses.
According to the composition of the prepared glass samples, the direct transition
optical band gap was observed to change between 2.77 eV and 3.04 eV; indirect
transition optical band gap was observed to change between 2.17 eV and 2.68 eV.
When the color and filtration properties of eighteen glass samples were
examined, it has been observed that V2O5 produced a fairly light-yellowish, CuO
produced different shades of green and CoO produced different shades of purple
coloration, among these only CuO doped glasses had the property of band-pass filter.
As a result, the optical and electrical properties of the glass samples are found to
depend on the substances in the structure of the glass, their ratios and also the types and
the ratios of the additives.
