Removal of antibiotic residues from the water environment has been frequently
studied in recent years. However, removing such micro-pollutants from the aqueous medium
by conventional methods is usually insufficient. Therefore, it is important to treat
wastewaters including commonly used antibiotics such as CIP, SDZ and TC an economical
and effective way. Adsorption is a significant alternative to traditional water treatment
methods with its various advantages such as ability to remove micro pollutants with low
concentration, low cost and easy to application. Biochars have been used by many
researchers for adsorption purposes in recent years. They generally have large surface areas
and are porous which make them excellent adsorbents.
In this study, sour cherry stalk modified with H3PO4, pyrolized and then it was used
for CIP, SDZ and TC removal. All antibiotic types showed that the best adsorption
performance in their zwitter ion forms. Maximum adsorption efficiencies were obtained as
99.95, 99.89 and 97.81% and maximum experimental adsorption capacities were 410.06,
310.08 and 189.68 mg/g for CIP, TC and SDZ, respectively. Equilibrium data were found to
be compatible with Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, Elovich and Temkin isotherm
models. Also, the pseudo-second order and Elovich kinetic models were the most suitable
models. Thermodynamic data showed that the adsorption processes for CIP and TC were
endothermic and SDZ adsorption process is exothermic nature. It can be said that the
adsorption of all adsorbates are spontaneous and proceeds with a mechanism based on
energetically heterogeneous surface with chemical interactions
