In terms of cultural history, publications studies with editorial critique on
manuscripts are highly significant. In libraries where ancient works are registered,
many compilations or copied works, especially from the Ottoman period, await
publication in this way with editorial critique. In this sense, it was thought that the
Islamic historical work named Târîh-i Ahterî, which is related to Siyer, by
Muslihuddin Mustafa Efendi, whose copies are found in various libraries, could be a
publication with editorial critique.
The author Muslihuddin Mustafa Efendi (d. 968 / 1560-61), who is known
with the pseudonym Ahterî, was born in Afyon, completed his primary education
here, and then he was approved by tekmil-i nusah (to read and complete all the
lessons that must be followed in the madrasah) in the Haliliye madrasah in Kütahya
and became a mudarris (a teacher) in the same madrasah. He is a versatile Islamic
scholar who wrote works in many branches of basic Islamic sciences in Kütahya, the
centre of the Anatolian Governorship in the 16th century. The grave of the one who
authored the famous Ahterî-i Kebîr dictionary is in the Karadonlu Lodge graveyard
in Kütahya. He lived in the periods of Bayezid II (1481-1512), Yavuz Sultan Selim
(1512-1520) and Kanûnî Sultan Süleyman (Suleiman the Magnificent) (1520-1566),
which was the period of development of the Ottoman Empire in all aspects.
Ahterî wrote various works such as Ahterî-i Kebîr, Câmiu’l-Mesâil, Târih-i
Ahterî/Risâletün fî Beyâni Ahvâli Ba’zi'l-Enbiyâ, Hâmilü'l-Muhâdarât/Câmiü'l-
Muhâdarât, Tercemetü’l-Ehâdîsi’l-Erbeîn, Câmi‘u’l-Lisân ve Şerhun alâ Risâleti’l-
Kefevi fi’l-Edeb in the fields of Arabic language and literature, fiqh, history of
prophets, hadith and ethics. Despite his sophisticated personality and proficiency in
these sciences, he became famous only for his dictionary and his works in other
fields did not attract the attention of researchers as he deserved.
In the present study, the editorial critique of the book of the author named
Târîh-i Ahterî, which is about the life of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), was made and
evaluations were made regarding the content of the work. This work deals with some
of the prophets from Prophet Adam to Muhammad (PBUH), the life of the Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH), Hulefâ-yi Râşidîn, Ahli Beyt, and the imams of four sects.
The study consists of two main parts, Arabic and Turkish. The Turkish part
consists of an introduction and three chapters, which includes information about the
vii
life of Muslihuddin Mustafa Efendi, general characteristics of his period, his works,
the content of Târîh-i Ahterî and the method followed in editorial critique. In the
Arabic part, editorial critique was made by writing the work in Arabic letters.
In the present study, editorial critique and text construction made on the
copies of the work, with Arabic letters, the life of Muslihuddin Mustafa Efendi, the
general characteristics of his period, the author's works, the content of the Târîh-i
Ahterî and the method followed in the investigation of the work were written in
Turkish. Also, it is of intention to introduce different copies of a work written in the
16th century and to contribute to today's Siyer studies by making an editorial critique
on the work
bulunan Muslihuddin Mustafa Efendi’nin Siyer ile alakalı Târîh-i Ahterî adlı İslam
Kütahya’daki Haliliye Medresesinde tekmil-i nusah ederek icazet almış ve aynı
Ahterî-i Kebîr adlı meşhur bir sözlük telif eden müellifin kabri
Kütahya’da Karadonlu Dergâhı hazîresindedir. Osmanlı Devleti’nin her yönden
gelişme devri olan II. Bayezid (1481-1512), Yavuz Sultan Selim (1512-1520) ve
Kanûnî Sultan Süleyman (1520-1566) dönemlerinde yaşamıştır.
Ahterî, Arap dili ve edebiyatı, fıkıh, peygamberler tarihi, hadis ve ahlak
alanlarında; Ahterî-i Kebîr, Câmi‘u’l-Mesâil, Târih-i Ahterî / Risâletün fî Beyâni
Muhammed (s.a.v)’in hayatını konu edinen Târîh-i
Ahterî isimli kitabının edisyon kritiği (tahkiki) yapılarak eserin içeriğiyle ilgili
değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Bu eser, Hz. Âdem (a.s)’dan Hz. Muhammed (s.a.v)’e
kadar olan bazı peygamberleri, Hz. Muhammed (s.a.v)’in hayatını, Hulefâ-yi
Râşidîn’i, Ehli Beyt’i ve dört mezhep imamını ele almaktadır.
