Bu çalısmada Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) ve Zn(II) geçis metallerinin orotik asit
(H3Or) içeren karısık ligantlı 2-metilimidazol (2-meim) ve N-metilimidazol (N-meim) 9 tane
kompleksi sentezlendi.
Sentezlenen mer-[Mn(μ-HOr)(H2O)(2-meim)2]n (1), mer-[Co(HOr)(H2O)2(2-meim)2]
(2), mer-[Ni(HOr)(H2O)2(2-meim)2] (3), [Cu(HOr)(H2O)2(2-meim)] (4), [Zn(HOr)(H2O)2(2-
meim)] (5), [Mn2(HOr)2(H2O)6]n (6), [Co(HOr)(H2O)2(N-meim)2]3·H2O (7),
[Ni(HOr)(H2O)2(N-meim)2] (8) ve [Zn(HOr)(H2O)(N-meim)2] (9) komplekslerinde,
dianyonik orotat ligantının üç farklı koordinasyon modu sergilediği belirlendi. Orotat
In this study, 9 mixed ligand complexes 2-methylimidazole (2-meim) and Nmethylimidazole
(N-meim) of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) transition metal ions
with orotic acid (H3Or) have been synthesized. The structural and spectroscopic properties of
synthesized complexes were characterized by using elemental analyses, magnetic
susceptibilities, IR and UV-Vis. spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques.
Thermal behaviours of the complexes were determined by simultaneously thermal analysis
techniques (TG, DTG and DTA). As a secondary ligand, monodentate 2-methylimidazole and
N-methylimidazole ligands which have N donor atom has been chosen in the syntheses of the
complexes.
In the synthesized complexes, the formula of complexes as found as mer-[Mn(μ-
HOr)(H2O)(2-meim)2]n (1), mer-[Co(HOr)(H2O)2(2-meim)2] (2), mer-[Ni(HOr)(H2O)2(2-
meim)2] (3), [Cu(HOr)(H2O)2(2-meim)] (4), [Zn(HOr)(H2O)2(2-meim)] (5),
[Mn2(HOr)2(H2O)6]n (6), [Co(HOr)(H2O)2(N-meim)2]3·H2O (7), [Ni(HOr)(H2O)2(N-meim)2]
(8), [Zn(HOr)(H2O)(N-meim)2] (9) and the dianionic orotate ligand exhibits three different
coordination modes, bidentate, tridentate-μ2 and tetradentate-μ3. Orotate is coordinated to
metal atom with the nitrogen atom of pyrimidine ring and oxygen atom of carboxylate group
as a bidentate manner in the 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 complexes. In 1, orotate ligand is
coordinated through nitrogen atom of pyrimidine ring, oxygen atom of carboxylate group and
oxygen atom of carbonyl group as a tridentate bridge. In 6, orotate ligand is coordinated
through nitrogen atom of pyrimidine ring, two diverse oxygen atoms from carboxylate groups
and oxygen atom of carbonyl group as a tetradentate bridge. Distorted octahedral (1-3 and 6-
8), trigonal bipyramidal (5, 9) and square pyramidal (4) geometries of the complexes are
completed with nitrogen atoms of monodentate neutral ligands and/or aqua ligands. These
complexes exhibit mononuclear and polynuclear structures.
The thermal analysis curves of the complexes exhibit three or four decomposition
stages. The first endothermic stage corresponds to the loss of the water molecules. The
following stages are related to the partly or completely release of ligands. In the exothermic
last stages, remaining organic part was abruptly burnt. The final decomposition products are
corresponding metal oxides.
