Mitoloji ile edebiyat, özel olarak da şiir arasında sıkı bir bağ vardır. Çünkü hem şiir hem mit temelde bir yaratma, kişiselleştirerek yorumlama eylemine dayanır. Bu yorumlama eylemi de şiirsel bir süreçtir.Yunan ve Roma mitolojisi, dünyadaki en önemli mitolojilerden birisidir ve gerek İkinci Yeni şiiri gerekse Cumhuriyet Dönemi Türk şiiri için verimli bir kaynaktır.Türk şiirinin modernleşmesi sürecinde İkinci Yeni hareketinin önemli bir yeri vardır. Bu hareketin önde gelen adları arasında sayabilecek İlhan Berk (1918-2008), Turgut Uyar (1927-1985), Edip Cansever (1928-1986), Cemal Süreya (1931-1990), Ece Ayhan (1931-2002) ve Sezai Karakoç (1933) hem biçim ve hem de içerik yönünden Türk şiirini farklı ve özgün bir alana doğru yönlendirmişlerdir.
