Her eğitim kliniğinin farklı
In this study, it was aimed to examine the opinions and suggestions of
the educators and residency students in medical faculties providing pediatric surgery res idency training about the "pediatric surgery specialty program in medicine" which is be ing applied at national level in Turkey.
Method: This research is designed as a descriptive case study, one of the patterns
of qualitative research approach. Quantitative and qualitative research designs were used
together to complement each other. In the quantitative dimension of the study, a ques tionnaire form was used to obtain general opinions about the program, and in the qualita tive dimension, semi-structured interview technique was used to reveal a deep analysis
about the re-search. The study group consisted of 112 educators and 86 students who
answered the questionnaire, and in the second part, 12 educators and 10 students who
were selected with purposeful sampling and participated in the semi-structured interview.
Collected data were analyzed descriptively. In the light of educator and student views, 3
themes and 35 codes were created. These themes were determined as the positive aspects
of the program, the negative aspects of the program, and the recommendations regarding
the program.
Results: In general, students and educators have evaluated the training program
positively. It has been identified that there are issues such as corporate infrastructure and
equipment deficiencies, health care priority, losing the priority of education, workload
and non-standard training. It is observed that the expected yield from the logbook was not
achieved. It is understood that peer education is an important part of child surgery spe cialist education. Most of the students of expertise believe that they will become a com petent expert when they complete their education. Positive opinions were generally re-
4
ported by those working in an established, well-developed, institutional hospital. Nega tive opinions were reported by educators and students in newly established hospitals that
could not make up for the lack of equipment and trainers.
Conclusion and Suggestions: Trainers and students are generally satisfied with
the execution of the specialist training program. Every education clinic has different prob lems. Infrastructure and hardware deficiencies constitute a significant problem in the ex ecution of the program. A change in the understanding of the administrators to accept that
training hospitals are educational institutions should be developed. Student education
should be prioritized by institution officials and trainers. Measures should be taken to
ensure the priority of training in institutions where specialist training is provided. Institu tional infrastructure and equipment should be completed in hospitals where training is
provided. As a result of multi-centre studies, the existing "core training program" should
be updated and developed
