Temel Demirer (1999)’in “başroldekiler” ve “ötekiler” tanımından yola çıkarak
kamusal alanda temsil edilemeyenler çoklu kamusal alan kavramıyla ele alınmıştır
Cities are the living spaces of people in communication with each other, where
ideas are spread. Decisions made regarding the city affect the lifestyle and identity of the
city dweller. Cities, which are the main factors that determine the urban life and welfare,
are shaped by the consumption process of Manuel Castells, and David Harvey and Henri
Lefebvre, on the other hand, are shaped by the solutions brought by capitalism to its crises.
The factors that shape the city point to the concept of hegemony in the city. The factors
that establish hegemony over the city and its inhabitants also shape the collective memory
and cultural memory. The factors that shape the city due to the interaction of the city and
culture are explained by sociologist Manuel Castells (1942-) and anthropologist Arjun
Appadurai (1949-) through the concepts of ethnic flow, media flow, technological flow,
financial flow and ideological flow that affect global culture. The city of Ankara, Atatürk
Boulevard and its immediate surroundings were handled as the sampling area, and the
architectural structures, monuments and other urban elements that constitute rituals in our
consciousness were examined in the public spaces of the boulevards and squares on our
work orbit. The elements dominated by the flow in question construct the urban
consciousness through spaces by constantly erasing or renewing the past in the city's
memory, identity through ritualistic acquisitions and images. Global culture is shaped by
our collective memories. Based on the definitions of Maurice Halbwachs and Jan
Assmann, it has been demonstrated with examples and literature research that memories
are shaped by collective memories rather than individual memories, and that the formation
of collective memory is formed by the images and signs in spaces by the dominant
elements. Our right to shape the city and how the city shapes our consciousness has been
discussed over the concept of urban rights and the concepts of Lefebvre's (2020) oeuvre
right [right to participate] and right to appropriation [right to use]. Based on Temel
Demirer's (1999) definition of "leading actors" and "others", those that cannot be
represented in the public sphere are discussed with the concept of multiple public spheres
