To reveal the effects of museum education practices in social studies
teaching on fifth grade students' attitudes towards concrete cultural heritage and their
attitudes and views towards social studies course.
Method: The research was designed according to the embedded (intertwined
mixed) design, which is one of the mixed research methods. The quantitative part of this
design consisted of a quasi-experimental design with a total participating student of 40.
Within the scope of this research, quantitative data were collected with the attitude scale
towards the concrete cultural heritage and the attitude scale towards the social studies
course, and the qualitative data were carried out with focus group interviews with the
experimental group students. While the scale of attitude towards concrete cultural
heritage was examined with two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the scale of attitude
towards social studies course was examined with the Shapiro-Wilk-W test. The data
obtained from the focus group interviews were analyzed by content analysis technique.
Results: The quantitative findings of the study show that the museum education
activities applied to the experimental group positively changed their attitudes towards the
concrete cultural heritage, while no significant change was observed in their attitudes
towards the social studies course. In the qualitative findings of the study, it was
determined that the students identified the social studies lesson with the history lesson
and they were satisfied with the activities performed cognitively and affectively.
Students, at the beginning of the difficulties they face while implementing the activities,
The place they learned the most was the Zeugma Mosaic Museum.

Conclusion and Suggestions: As a result of the quantitative findings of the
research, it can be said that the students’ attitudes towards the concrete cultural heritage
in the social studies course are (experimental group) positively. Since the
students'attitudes towards the social studies course were already at a high level, it was
determined that the experimental procedure did not have a significant effect on the
students' attitudes towards the social studies course
