Partikül miktarının artması ile çekme mukavemetleri 95,6 MPa’dan 84,01 MPa’a düşmüştür. %5 bor karbür içeren kaynaklı kompozitin çekme mukavemeti 67,05 MPa, %10 bor karbür içeren kaynaklı kompozitin çekme mukavemeti 62,41 MPa olarak bulunmuştur. Parçacık miktarı arttıkça gevrek kırılma yüzeyleri de artmıştır.
The objective of the present study was to investigate the production of aluminum matrix boron carbide particle reinforced compozite using vortex method and to examine the relationship of the particle ratio with mechanical properties and TIG weldability.
40 µm size of particles boron carbide is used for composite production. Ti was added to matrix for improving of boron carbide. Tensile and hardness tests were conducted for composites. The microstructure and fracture surface of specimens were characterized using optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with EDS. When the particle ratio was increased, the hardness increased but tensile strength decreased. While Al-Ti matrix hardness was 29.85 HB, %5 and %10 containing boron carbide composites hardness were respectively found to be 43.56 and 46.60 HB. Tensile strength decreased from 95.96 to 84.01 MPa with the increase of the amount of particulate. The tensile strength of the welded composite containing 5% boron carbide was found to be 67.05 MPa, the tensile strength of the welded composite containing 10% boron carbide was found to be 62.41 MPa. Brittle fracture surfaces are also increased with the increase of the particle.
