This thesis presents a field study which examines the correlation
between professional attitudes and burnout levels of academicians at the
faculty of Theology/ Islamic Studies, teachers of religious and moral education
and religious service officials working in the following cities: Istanbul, Ankara,
Izmir, Adana, Diyarbakir, Samsun and Erzurum.
After a thorough evaluation of the responses of the questionnaires
developed for 282 academicians, 1605 officials at the Ministry of Education
and 1775 officials at the Presidency of Religious Affairs, semi-structured
interview has been conducted within the scope of this study on ten officials
who switched from Presidency of Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Education
or universities and from the Ministry of Education to universities. The research
is based on a presumed significance level of 0,05 (p<0,05). Data collected is
analyzed through SPSS 23,0 and interpreted by the researcher in the light of
the relevant researches.
The analysis has proved a high level of correlation between professional
attitude and burnout syndrome and this level changes dramatically depending
on the workplace of the employees examined in this research. In this study,
variables like sex, marital status, degrees of graduation, age, seniority, city,
residential area, title and reasons to choose this career were taken into
consideration to determine the correlation between the professional attitudes
and burnout. The study has revealed that variables affecting the professional
attitude depend on the workplace of employees. So, professional attitude of
academicians varies according to sex, age, years of service and city. Marital
status, age, city and title play a major role in the professional attitude of
employees of the Ministry of Education while all the variables apart from age
have an effect on the professional attitude of employees of the Presidency of
Religious Affairs. The study has also found that there is a significant
correlation between all variables mentioned above except for sex and city and
burnout levels of academicians while variables such as sex, degree of
graduation, city, residential area, and title do not have any effect on burnout
state of the employees of the Ministry of National Education.
In conclusion, in view of the facts obtained from the research some
suggestions have been made for improving the professional attitude and
reducing the burnout levels of employees in the field of religious education and
services
