veriler “Sosyal Bilimler İçin İstatistik Programı (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 25)”
kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular yedi başlıkta sıralanmıştır. Birinci
bulguda Meslek Lisesi 10.
2
hazırlık eksikliği, bilgi eksikliği ve tutarsız bilgi değişkenlerinin sahip oldukları görülmektedir.
Üçüncü olarak 40-60 arası not ortalamasına sahip öğrencilerin bilgi eksikliğinin, 60-80 arası not
ise alanlara göre anlamlı bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Beşinci bulgu olarak hazırlık eksikliğini;
The purpose of this research is to observe the reason that affects field preferences
of 10th grade students, its relation with some variables, difficulties in career planning (lack of
readiness or lack of information, inconsistent knowledge); predictor to role of perceived career
barriers (gender discrimination, future of the profession and labour market constraints, difficulties
in education of profession and labour conditions, obstacles regarding lack of talent and interest,
lack of motivation for the exam (lack of motivation and insufficient preparation), moving out,
personal problems (responsibilities), family and environmental effects (social constraints)].
Method: In this research relational pattern was utilized. Population of this research is
consisted of 10th Grade Students who were studied in Eskisehir, Turkey and Lefkosa in Turkish
Republic of Northern Cyprus during 2018-2019 academic year. Research data was gathered from
318 attendants from 4 schools in Eskişehir and 320 from 3 schools in Lefkosa. In this research,
there were 253 girls and 385 boys, so 638 students in total. In data collection process Personal
Information Form, Difficulties on Career Decision Making Scale and Perceived Career Barriers
Scale were utilized. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 25 was made used of in gathering
of research data.
Findings: In result of the research, findings were observed separately under seven titles.
In the first, the top three reasons behind 10th Grade Vocational School Students decide their fields
of study are respectively low grades to study in Eskisehir, point of interest and thinking they are fit
to that chosen field; whereas for Lefkosa these reasons differ as,students like the chosen area, point
of interest and encouragement of the family. Regarding the second finding concerning reasons for
difficulties students with higher averages experience, reasons respectively observed as lack of
4
preparation and knowledge and instable knowledge factors. In the third finding, it was observed
that lack of knowledge of students with averages between 40-60 is significantly higher than
students with 60-80 averages. However, there is no difference observed between lack of
preparation and point average. Depending on the fourth finding, lack of knowledge of students
studying Child Development and Education is noticeably lower than students who are studying
Graphic Design and Photography, Office Management and Motor Vehicle Technology. In a similar
way, the instable knowledge of students from Child Development and Education Department is
perceptibly lower than students from Graphic Design and Photography, Accounting, Finance Marketing and Motor Vehicle Technology. Regarding lack of preparation, there is no a significant
difference observed depending on different fields. As to finding five, variables in lack of
preparation such as education on profession and difficult work conditions, poor motivation for
exam, family and environmental impacts, studying in Lefkosa for High-School and being a woman
were predicted as positive and explain %14 part of the matter. Depending on the sixth finding,
variables in the lack of knowledge such as education on profession and difficult work conditions,
future of the profession and labour market constraints, lack of exam motivation, family and
environmental impacts, and finally poor point of interest and studying High-School in Lefkosa are
predicted as positive; and explain %31 of the matter. As to final finding, insufficient knowledge to
decide on career, education on profession and difficult work conditions, future of the profession
and labour market constraints, lack of exam motivation, family and environmental impacts, lack of
talent and interest and finally, High-School education in Lefkosa were predicted as positive and
explain %37 of the matter.
Conclusion and Suggestions: In regard to research findings it was concluded that it is
appropriate to conduct more new research in new schools of different cities and different fields
towards field preferences of vocational school students. Moreover, academic field representations,
informative seminars towards families and coordination of teachers with psychological counsellors
were proved to be necessary to eliminate lack of field knowledge of students
