In this study, thermodynamic analysis of a facility producing 240 tons of raw
omeprazole per year was investigated. The production process has been divided into
seventeen (17) stages, and thermodynamic analysis has been made by drawing boundaries
in stages. Energy loss, exergy loss and exergy efficiency were calculated for each stage.
As a result of the thermodynamic analysis, it was determined that the stage where the
most energy loss occurred was the 14th stage, where precipitation was performed with
651939 kJ. Exergy loss, on the other hand, was determined in the 14th stage, with the highest
heat transfer from the system to the environment with 569379 kJ. In terms of exergy
efficiency, the most inefficient process was achieved in the 2nd stage with % 0,63 exergy
efficiency. The exergy loss calculated for the recovery of the omeprazole product from the
reaction mixture constituted % 65 of the total exergy loss. Processes with batch reactors
should be carried out with continuous, well-modernized systems that will minimize
irreversibility, perform heat transfer with minimal energy, support lean production
