In this study, an immobilized new sorban material was prepared by passive
immobilization of Neurospora sitophila cells on the geopolymer surface. The Pb(II)
removal characteristics of immobilized material was investigated in batch and continuous
flow systems. Experimental parameters including initial pH, amount of biosorbent and time
on the Pb (II) removal potential of sorbent material were investigated and optimum
conditions were determined. Lagergren pseudo-first-order and the the pseudo-second-order
models were used to kinetic modeling of the process. Isotherm data were evaluated with
Langmuir, Freundlich and D-R isotherm models. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model
and the Freundlich isotherm model have been identified to successfully define the Pb (II)
removal process with high coefficients of determination values. The applicability of the
developed immobilized material on a large scale was tested with breaktrough, regeneration
potential and real wastewater treatment studies. The characterization of the material was
evaulated by SEM, EDX and IR analyzes and the mechanism of sorption was tried to
clarified. As a result a new, effective and alternative immobilized sorbant material was
proposed for removing Pb (II) ions from aqueous media
