2
alanına uygun kurulan toplam problem sayısı) kriterleri göz önünde bulundurulup her bir
okul türünde düşük potansiyel yaratıcı, orta potansiyel yaratıcı ve yüksek potansiyel
yaratıcı olmak üzere üç grupta incelenmiştir. Akademik başarı seviyesi düşük olan
öğrencilerin her iki problem kurma etkinliği incelendiğinde çoğu öğrencinin potansiyel
araştırmaya değer bir konu olduğu düşünülmektedir. İleri araştırma önerileri kapsamında;
Purpose: In this research, it was aimed to examine the problem-posing abilities
and creativity of seventh grade students through semi-structured activities prepared by
using story-making cards and story cubes.
Method: In the research, the case study pattern, one of the qualitative research
methods, was used. A total of 12 students attending two public secondary schools that are
at low and high achievement levels in Eskişehir constitute the study group of the research.
The mathematics grades were taken as the criteria for determining the students who would
participate in the study. For each success level of high, medium, and low level, two
students were selected as one being a boy and the other a girl, totalling 12 students from
two schools. The data were obtained from two different problem-posing activities that
included two story-making cards and a story cube; and semi-structured interview forms.
Results: According to the findings of the study, most of the students in the study
group did not have problem-posing experience. It was determined that those students who
had practiced any problem-posing activity previously were able to pose problems by
looking at a picture, a word or based on a written text in mathematics lesson. It was also
found that the students had not encountered the story-making cards and story cubes
included in the problem posing activities. When the problem posing activities were
examined, it was found that the students tried to write as many problems as they could in
response to unlimited time. When the problems posed by the students were examined, it
was determined that problems were lacking in terms of language and expression. On the
other hand, it was also found that there weren’t any problem situation posed in the
statements written by some of the students. However, as a result of the analyzes;
considering the fluency (the total number of problems students have established) and
4
flexibility (the total number of problems established in accordance with different sub learning areas), the students were examined in three groups as low-potential creative,
medium-potential creative and high-potential creative in each school type. When both
problem posing activities of students with low academic achievement were examined, it
was seen that most students' potential creativity was at a low level, while only two
students were found to be at a high level. It was found that the potential creativity of
students with medium academic achievement levels is distributed into three different
levels: low, medium and high. In students with a high level of academic achievement, it
was observed that the potential creativity of most students was medium and high, while
two students were found to be at a low level.
Conclusion and Suggestions: In this research which examined students' problem
posing abilities and creativity with semi-structured problem posing activities, similar
results to other research findings in the field of problem posing were obtained. Students
wrote texts that did not contain question statements in their problems and made language
and expression errors. Although the students had not encountered story cards and cubes
before, they stated that they liked posing problems in these activities. When the potential
creativity of the students is examined, the finding that some of the students with low
academic achievement level showed a high level of potential creativity, while some of
the students with high academic achievement level showed a low level of potential
creativity is considered as a matter worth researching. Within the scope of further research
proposals; similar to this research, semi-structured or structured problem posing activities
can be carried out with various original materials without time constraints. Students'
problem posing abilities and creativity can be examined by designing and implementing
researches in which different tools are included in problem posing process. Students’
problems can be analyzed in the context of problem posing criteria, and then feedback
can be given to them in order to reduce their inadequacy in posing problems and to
improve their creativity
