High technology product exports contribute significantly to the economic and
scientific development of countries. Therefore, countries are working to increase the
export of high-tech products. Exports of high-tech products are particularly linked to
R&D spending. The increase in R&D expenditures increases the production of high
technology products. The relationship between high-tech product exports and
exchange rates has not been clearly identified in the studies conducted. Expectations
that the increase in the real effective exchange rate will increase exports have not
been realized.
The aim of this study is to explain the relationship between high technology
product export R&D expenditures and real effective exchange rate.
For this purpose, the relation of R&D expenditures and real effective exchange rate
with high technology product exports in G-20 countries was explained with the Panel
ARDL method. Annual data for the period 1996-2018 were used in the study.
According to the results obtained; In Trendless Panel ARDL analysis, long term
R&D expenditures and real effective exchange rate index were found to be positive
and significant on high technology product exports in the long term. Also in the
Trended ARDL Model; While long-term R&D expenditures negatively affect high tech product exports, the real effective exchange rate has been positively correlated
with high-tech product exports
