, 282 mAhg-1
, 314 mAhg 1
ve 325 mAhg-1
’dır. AB3 yapısındaki La2MgNi9 alaşımı ise 278 mAhg-1 maksimum hidrojen
depolama kapasitesi göstermiştir
The aim of the presented study was the production of AB5 and AB3 type hydrogen
storage alloys via electro-deoxidation method. Specifically, LaNi5, La(Ni01-xCox)5 (x: 0,1;
0,2; 0,3) AB5 type alloys and La2MgNi9 AB3 type alloys were synthesized successfully via
this method. Further, the electrochemical hydrogen storage properties of these alloys were
characterized.
It was was observed that La2NiO4 is a kind of the terminal phase leading to the
formation of La-Ni and La-Mg-Ni phases. La2NiO4 reacted also with molten CaCl2 to form
LaOCl reduction of which was challenging. LaOCl retarted the formation of LaNi5 during
the electro-deoxidation. The X-Ray diffraction peaks indicated that the formation of
La2MgNi9 occured in two steps. First La2NiO4 was reduced to LaNi5, then LaNi5 reacted
with (Ni-Mg-O) solid solution to formed La2MgN9. It was concluded that a high reduction
rate might lead to problems like discontinuity in deoxidation and a sample structure with
retained LaOCl. Experimental studies showed that the reduction of LaOCl was highly related
to deoxidation kinetics. In the procuction of La2MgNi9 alloy, LaOCl reduction was achieved
by fine tuning of the process parameters. The final AB3 type structure was obtained with
retained LaNi5 after 10 hours electro-deoxidation.
Overall results of this study showed that the electro-deoxidaiton is a promising
technique for the production of hydrogen storage alloys. Substitution of Ni with Coincreased
the discharge capacity of AB5 alloys. LaNi5 and La(Ni01-xCox)5 (x: 0,1; 0,2; 0,3) alloys had
a 223 mAhg-1
, 282 mAhg-1
, 314 mAhg-1
and 325 mAhg-1 maximum discharge capacities
respectively. The maximum discharge capacity of La2MgNi9 alloy was 278 mAhg-1
