In this thesis, by considering Turkey's largest trading partners, it has been
examined whether the real depreciation of national currency affects the foreign trade
balance in the long run positively. According to the J curve effect, while the
depreciation of the national currency affects the foreign trade balance negatively in the
short term, the effect evolves positively in the long run as the consumers turn to
domestic goods. J curve effect validity on Turkey's bilateral trade with 12 trading
partners for 2005: 1-2019: 2 period were analyzed by non-linear ARDL method using
quarterly data. In the analysis, it is seen that there is no long run relationship between
changes in real exchange rates and bilateral trade of Turkey with China, Italy, and
England. As a result of the analysis on bilateral trade with USA, Spain France, and
South Korea, the J curve effect exists. Moreover, it is found that the effects of exchange
rate changes on bilateral trade balances of Turkey with her 6 trading partners is
asymmetric
