Released 2012. IBM
SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 21.0.
Aim;. The results of preterm labor are not limited to infants, mothers also
have problems such as adaptation, baby care responsibilities and coping with
serious mental problems. The aim of study was to determine the quality of life
and the level of depression in mothers with preterm labor and to determine the
relationship between the quality of life and depression in postpartum period.
Material and Method; The research was conducted with 150 volunteer
mothers (76 volunteers have a preterm and 74 voulunteers have a term infant)
at the Istanbul Education and Research Hospital in Suleymaniye Obstetrics
and Gynecology Department between 07 November 2018 and 07 March 2019.
As a data collection tool; the questionnaire form which was composed of 24
questions, Postpartum Quality of Life Scale (PQLS) and Edinburgh
Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) were used. The data were filled by face to-face interview technique. For statistical analysis and calculations, IBM
SPSS Statistics 21.0 and MS-Excel 2007 programs were used.
Results; Women in the study, 49.3% had term and 50.7% had premature
infants. The mean age of the mothers who had premature infants was 29.84 ±
6.02 and the mothers who had term infants was 28.22 ± 4.69 years. The mean
age of the mothers was similar and no statistically significant difference was
found. Smoking was more common in mothers who had premature infants (p
<0.05). Prematurity was more common in mothers who had premature infants
(p<0.05). In our study, postpartum quality of life of mothers who had
premature infants was found to be low (p <0.05) and postpartum depression
risk was to be high (p <0.001).
Conclusion; In our study, postpartum life quality of mothers with
premature infants were found to be low and the risk of depression was high. A
negative, linear and statistically significant relationship was found between
postpartum quality of life and depression risk.
