Kompozit malzeme sentezinde %83 Ti3SiC2, %17
SiC içeren matris kullanılmıştır. Bütün numunelerin teorik yoğunluklarının %98’in
In this study, it is aimed to enhance the mechanical, thermal and tribological
properties of Ti3SiC2 MAX phase with the addition of TiB2 to promote its use in
tribological applications. Ti3SiC2 was synthesized from Ti, Si, TiC, Al starting powders by
spark plasma sinterig (SPS) technique. SiC formation during sintering was supplied by
adjusting the molar ratios of starting powders instead of external SiC addition. Matrix
samples which contain 17% SiC, 83% Ti3SiC2 by weight were produced. The reference
material containing 100% Ti3SiC2 was synthesized to determine the improvement in
properties shown by the SiC containing matrix. In order to understand the effect of the
addition of Al and extra Si in the sintering, powder mixtures containing 0,2 mol Al and
%10 excess Si by mol and Al and extra Si free powder mixtures were prepared. TiC
impurity phase formation was determined in SiC containing samples and 100% Ti3SiC2
containing samples which were sintered from Al and extra Si free powder mixtures.
Impurity phase formation was prevented in matrix samples sintered by addition of Al and
Si. 83% Ti3SiC2 and 17% SiC containing matrix was used for composite material
synthesis. It was determined that the theoretical density of all samples was over 98%.
Hardness, thermal diffusivity and abrasion resistance were enhanced by adding TiB2 to
Ti3SiC2. The highest values for stated properties were obtained by adding 15% TiB2. The
hardness of Ti3SiC2-15TiB2 composite is 47% more than matrix sample containing 100%
Ti3SiC2 and 12% higher than SiC containing matrix sample. Thermal diffusivity values at
100 0C and 600 0C are 56,85% and 61,94% higher than SiC reinforced matrix, respectively.
The abrasion resistance was improved by about 97% compared to the reference sample
with the addition of 15% TiB2
