Static body postures that are induced by the repetitive works in the assembly lines result
in ergonomic risks since they provide a basis for growth of Work-related Musculosketal
Disorders which may affect the efficiency of lines. Therefore, in addition to restrictions
caused by cycle time and amount of stations, the potential straining risks due to required job
elements must be taken into account. To this end, in this thesis work a multi-objective
mathematical model is developed that consider balancing of assembly line cycle time and
levels of ergonomic risks, simultaneously. In this mathematical model, it is aimed both to
minimize station time and to minimize the total deviations of ergonomic risk scores.
Weighted sum method and conic scalarization methods were applied to solve the multi purpose model consisting of two purposes. The conic scalarization method also reflects the
decision-maker's preferences and does not require convexity as in other scalarization
methods, thus producing satisfactory solutions to very large and NP-hard problems. To
analyse the outcomes of the developed model in real life environment, an application is
performed at a home appliance assembly line. The assembly line consisting of a total of 32
stations was divided into 108 work element, and the standard times were calculated by the
time studies and REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) risk scores were determined. Work
elements take a minimum of 2.3 maximum 35.9 seconds and REBA scores have a minimum
of 2 and a maximum of 8. The cycle time of the single model built-in dishwasher line was
determined as 41 seconds according to the desired amount to be produced daily. The model
is solved in the GAMS packet program for the purpose of minimizing station time and the
results were shown. Solving the problem not only single, but also multi-objectively,
balancing results are evaluated by OMAX (Objective Matrix) method
