Zeolites are used as adsorbent, ion exchanger and catalyst in industrial applications
where chemical processes such as drying, condensation, adsorption and separation are
involved. Therefore, the methods of determining the acidity properties of zeolite surface
and the applicability and reliability of these methods have been examined and interpreted
by many researchers.
Bronsted and Lewis acid-base definitions are used to identify the acidity-bases of
solid surfaces. The amount of solid surface acid-base is determined by the color (Hammett)
indicator visible in the anhydrous aprotic solvent medium, such as calorimetric,
spectroscopic and adsorption-desorption. Other physicochemical methods are the most
used; The method in which the adsorption of the solvent molecules with acidic and basic
properties is determined by spectroscopic measurements (IR) can be counted as X-ray
photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the temperature programmed desorption (TPD) method
and the calorimetric method based on the adsorption of the solvent gases or the inverse gas
chromatography (TGK) method.
In this study; three different zeolites (Zeolite X, ZeoliteA, Zeolite β and ZSM-5)
were synthesized using the hydrothermal synthesis method. Surface acidity of synthesized
zeolites was investigated by using the TGK method. In addition, many conventional
techniques will be used to determine the composition, form and morphology of the
obtained zeolites. These techniques; X-Ray Fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), X-ray
diffraction distribution (XRD) method and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) methods
