The effect of sonication time on the phase transition temperature of cholesteryl
oleyl carbonate in chloroform was investigated. The phase transitions of cholesteryl oleyl
carbonate were studied by means of polarizing optical microscopy (POM) and isentropic
compressibility data with 400 W ultrasonic horn at an amplitude of 50% for 0,1, 2, 5, 15
and 25 mins. The phase transition behaviour was analyzed by the comparison of the results
obtained from POM and isentropic compressibility data in terms of sonication time. It was
seen that low sonication times (1 and 2 mins) caused the phase transition temperature to
increase. It was observed the transitions from smectic phase into isotropic phase and also
measured density and speeds of sound values
