hızlar Semi Implicit Method for Pressure Linked Equations (SIMPLE) metodu kullanılarak
hesaplanmıştır. Viskoz terimlerin ayrıştırılmasında merkezi farklar, taşınım terimlerinin
ayrıştırılmasında Quadratic Upwind Interpolation (QUICK) metodu kullanılmıştır. Serbest
yüzeydeki akışı değerlendirmek için de Volume of Fluid (VOF) metodu kullanılmıştır.
Kodlar FORTRAN programlama dili kullanılarak yazılmıştır. x ve y yönlerinde uniform
olmayan ağ yapısı aynı zamanda silindir ve serbest yüzey yakınında daha sık ağ yapısı
kullanılmıştır. Pr sayısı 7.0; Fr sayısı 0,3 alınmıştır. Art arda yerleştirilmiş silindirlerin
etrafındaki akışın ve ısı geçişinin incelenmesinde Re sayısı 180, 250 ve 400, silindirler arası
mesafe 1,5D ve 4,0D alınmıştır. Akış derinliği 16D için serbest yüzeye uzaklık 0,25D; 0,5D;
alınarak, akış derinliği 8D için ise serbest yüzeye uzaklık 0,25D; 0,75D; 1,5D ve 2,5D;
silindirler arası mesafe 0,5D; 1,0D ve 2,0D alınarak incelenmiştir. Çalışmada serbest
yüzeyin altındaki silindirlerin arasındaki ve iz bölgesindeki girdap ve eş sıcaklık eğrileri elde
edilmiştir. Serbest yüzeye uzaklığının, silindirler arasındaki mesafenin, akışın derinliğinin
ve Re sayılarının; ortalama direnç katsayısına, kaldırma kuvveti katsayısının maksimum
değerine, Strouhal ve Nusselt sayılarına etkileri araştırılmıştır
In this study, two and three dimensional numerical simulations were performed to
examine the heat transfer and flow around tandem and side-by-side square cylinders placed
in a channel with a free surface. Three-dimensional continuity, Navier-Stokes equation and
the energy equation were solved. The pressure and velocity field were calculated by applying
the Semi Implicit Method for Pressure Linked Equations (SIMPLE). The viscous terms were
discretized by employing a central-difference formula, and the convective terms were
discretized by Quadratic Upwind Interpolation (QUICK) method. Volume of Fluid method
(VOF) were used to evaluate the free surface. The computer codes were written using the
FORTRAN programming language. Nonuniform grid structure were used in the simulation
with denser grids near the free surface and the cylinders. The Pr number and Fr number were
kept constant as 7.0 and 0.3 respectively in this study. For the flow around and heat transfer
from the tandem cylinders; Reynolds numbers of 180, 250 and 400, the distance between the
cylinders of 1.5D and 4.0D were applied. For the flow depth of 16D; the distance to free
surface of 0.25D, 0.5D, 0.75D, 1.0D, 1.5D, 2.5D, 4.5D and 5.5D were applied. For the flow
depth of 4D and 8D; the distance to free surface of 0.25D, 0.5D, 0.75D, 1.0D and 1.5D were
employed. For the simulations of flow and heat transfer from the side-by-side cylinders;
Reynolds numbers of 180 and 250 were applied. For the flow depth of 16D; the distance to
free surface of 0.25D, 0.75D, 1.5D, 2.5D and 4.5D, the distance between the cylinders of
0.5D, 1.0D and 2.0D were applied. For the flow depth of 8D; the distance to free surface of
0.25D, 0.75D, 1.5D and 2.5D, the distance between the cylinders of 0.5D, 1.0D and 2.0D
were employed. The vorticity contours and isotherms were obtained between the cylinders
and in the downstream region. The effect of the distance to the free surface, between the
cylinders, the depth flow and the Re numbers on the mean of the drag coefficient, on the
maximum value of the lift coefficient, and on the Strouhal and Nusselt numbers were
investigated. The effect of the distance of the free surface, between the cylinders, the depth
flow and the Re numbers were investigated on the mean of the drag coefficient, on the
