Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the predictive power of achievement goal orientations on the flow experiences of high school students in their academic studies. In this regard, it was aimed to test the suitability of hypothetical model of the relationship between the students' flow experience in academic context and achievement goal orientations. Method: This study was carried out in the relational screening model of quantitative research methods. The sample of the study consisted of 1916 high school students (1058 females and 857 males) continuing their education in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades of six different high school types in the city center of Afyonkarahisar. Flow Scale in Academic Context and Achievement Goal Orientations Scale developed in the scope of this study were used to collect data. Achievement goal orientations of the students were determined as the independent variable, while their flow experiences in academic context were determined as the dependent variable. In the statistical analysis of the data, the hypothetical model was tested with structural equation modeling. Results: The fit indices of the model obtained by the analysis were examined and it was concluded that the model was compatible with the data. There could not be found any relation between the performance goal orientation and flow experiences of students in academic context. On the other hand, learning goal orientation was found to predict the flow experience in a positive and high level. Conclusion and Suggestions: In conclusion, as the students' level of being learning-goal-oriented increases, their level of experiencing flow during their academic studies also increases. However, being performance-oriented does not correlate positively or negatively with flow experience in academic context. It is thought that it will
be useful to use the findings obtained in this study in educational guidance services and in the preparation of educational planning.
