Due to the fact that the abundance of the natural fibers, being renewable sources,
harmless for the environment, biodegradable and having low cost and low density, they are
being evaluated in various applications from the construction sector to the automotive
sector, textile to biomaterials. For this purpose, composite material technologies in which
natural fibers are used as reinforcement materials attract attention. Improving the
compatibility between fiber and polymer is a major problem in applications where polymer
composites are preferred. In this work, waste natural fibers have been pre-treated with
different chemicals to solve this problem. Later, polymer composites were prepared by
using these pretreated waste natural fibers as reinforcement material and a natural polymer,
chitosan as matrix material. Two different recipies were optained by using two additivies
while preparing the polymer composites. In order to determine the structural and
morphological properties of the prepared composites, X-ray diffraction patterns, scanning
electron microscope images and Fourier transform infrared spectra were obtained. In
addition, water and moisture uptake behaviors of the materials were determined for the
purpose of being evaluated as biomaterial and diffusion coefficients of biocomposite-drug
systems were calculated for a selected model drug
