The purpose of this study is to evaluate the learning environments created for
science and technology courses in terms of constructive learning environments and to
determine the of science and technology teachers opinions teaching in rural areas about
their teaching process. The universe of the research includes secondary school students
studying in the central and rural parts of Eskisehir. The samples of the research include 986
secondary school students studying in the central and rural parts of Eskisehir and 8 science
and technology teachers working in rural areas in Eskisehir. In this study, for quantitative
research, screening model and phenomenological pattern have been used. The data
gathered from the students has been made up by means of constructivist learning
environment scale, whereas it has been made up by means of the audio recorded interviews
from the teachers. The data has been analyzed by using arithmetic mean, t-test, one-way
analysis of variance, descriptive analysis and frequency analysis. The results of qualitative
point out that science and technology course learning environments in rural areas have
represented constructivist learning environments adequately; the location of schools affects
the size of the scientific uncertainty. There have been significant differences between the
success and scores dimension of the rural students. There also have been significant
differences between the grade levels and the scores of each dimension of the students from
the city centre. In the quantitative results, most of the teachers have pointed out that
practical information is valuable; test method is the best method, they have modelled the
classroom learning through constructivist methods and evaluated learning through question
method, while evaluating the concept learning, students must be requested to give examples
of the concepts and to define the original concepts, creating a lab environment is important
for advanced learning, the importance of the concepts encountered by students in their daily
life, and constructivist approach has no contribution to the educational environment.
