Opto-electronic technology which is continuously developing and searching for
innovations needs alternative transparent conducting oxide materials. On this purpose, the
effect of Al doping and thermal annealing on the characteristics of CdO films, having an
important potential with their physical properties but unfortunately haven’t experienced the
interest it deserved, has been investigated. Ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique which is
economical and simple has been used to produce the films. CdO films have been doped with
Al at the percentages of 1, 2 and 3 at %. Three different temperatures (250, 350 and 450 °C)
have been chosen for thermal annealing and the films have been annealed in air for one hour.
The structural, electrical, optical and surface properties of the films have been characterized
using different techniques and the effect of doping and annealing on these properties have
been investigated. The results have been presented by taking into consideration that these
films will have applications in opto-electronic industry and semiconductor solar cells. Finally,
it has been seen that doping and annealing have noticeable effects on the properties of the
films, low Al concentration and high annealing temperature improves the physical, structural
and surface properties.
