In this thesis study, discharges of the boron having high melting point were
produced and properties of the boron thin films and discharges were investigated in the
Thermionic Vacuum Arc (TVA). Second, third, fourth and fifth chapters are a part of
theoretical information in the thesis study. Second chapter about description and
properties of plasmas, third chapter about properties and applications of the boron
element and compounds, forth chapter about some ion deposition methods and
advantage of ion deposition and fifth chapter about system, discharges and properties of
the TVA were presented. Sixth and seventh chapters are a part of experimental in this
thesis study. Sixth chapter boron TVA discharges discharge current-voltage
characteristics, discharge current—pressure effect in the vacuum vessel by generating
boron TVA discharges and deposition rate of the boron in the TVA were investigated.
At the last chapter, XPS, SEM, HRTEM, electron diffraction pattern, AFM and optical
properties were analyzed growing thin films of the boron in the TVA.
