The increase in the atmospheric proportion of various gases, especially carbon
dioxide and methane, leads to the keeping of the sun rays reaching the earth in the
asmosphere, leading to increased atmospheric heat and climatic changes. These gases,
which are called as greenhouse gas due to the effect of greenhouse created by them,
have shown a significant increase since the Industrial Revolution. In addition to
adverse effect on human health, the main factor in increasing greenhouse gases, which
have devastating effects on the natural environment and cause climate change, are the
economic activities underlying human well-being.
The manufactuing industry, which is the dynamic power of the economy, has
great prospects for developing countries. Greenhouse gas emissions on the ground are
increasing due to the fossil energy sources used in manufacturing industry. Pollutant
emissions threaten the whole world by harming the environment and human health. In
this study, the relationship between manufacturing industry production and
greenhouse gas emissions was examined by ARDL model using 1998-2014 data. The
validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis was tested for manufacturing
industry in Turkey.
According to the findings obtained in the study, it was concluded that the EKC
hypothesis is not valid for Turkey in the long term. It was found that there is a Nshaped
relationship between the variables.
