Autonomous driving (the one that does not need to be guided by a driver) is shaping up as the future of mobility, and has become a strategic aspect for car manufacturers, transportation services and technology companies. But to be able to drive autonomously the vehicle needs to know exactly where it is, to recognize the objects of its environment and to constantly calculate the optimal route to provide a safe trip, made by cameras, radars and lasers obtaining the most possible information, essential for safety.
The simulation on its part is an important tool that allows reconstructing a real environment in a computer, in which it can make changes before implementing them in real surroundings; for autonomous driving it can be a tool that brings the general public closer to expensive systems or requiring a great logistics.
This project focuses on the simulation of small-scale car-like robot, whose model is based on the existing real model using ROS and Gazebo simulator, which can autonomously navigate on a track making decisions about the route to follow. The simulated model adds features to the track that could be found in a real environment, such as a tunnel, obstacle and work zone.
